Dear friends,
Because of email organizational issues, it would be nice if a short prefix (like [vw]) would be included in the subject line of the messages, so it's easier to group them on the receiving end as needed. Thanks, Victor |
Couldn't you group them by the recipient? Most email clients allow
filtering of messages directed to [hidden email], that's how I do it in Outlook and Mail, -Boris -- +1.604.689.0322 DeepCove Labs Ltd. 4th floor 595 Howe Street Vancouver, Canada V6C 2T5 http://tinyurl.com/r7uw4 [hidden email] CONFIDENTIALITY NOTICE This email is intended only for the persons named in the message header. You can easily sort on the 'X-mailing-list' header, when it contains the string '[hidden email]' move the mail to your vwnc box. No need to clutter the Subject line with useless info. My Outlook Express supports message rules and the ability to configure how
to handle incoming messages that meet some criteria. Along with the option to automatically move said message to a designated email folder, there's even an option that lets me 'mark it as read' so that I can happily go on unaware that mail of this sort has even arrived. In a sense, I treat vwnc email like spam. :) ----- Original Message ----- From: "Reinout Heeck" <[hidden email]> To: "vwnc-list NC" <[hidden email]> Sent: Thursday, July 05, 2007 11:21 AM Subject: Re: [VW] the prefix > > You can easily sort on the 'X-mailing-list' header, when it contains the > string '[hidden email]' move the mail to your vwnc box. > > No need to clutter the Subject line with useless info. > > > R > - > > > > > On Jul 5, 2007, at 5:48 PM, Victor wrote: > >> Dear friends, >> >> Because of email organizational issues, it would be nice if a short >> prefix (like [vw]) would be included in the subject line of the >> messages, so it's easier to group them on the receiving end as needed. >> >> Thanks, >> Victor >> >> > > |

I agree with Victor. Even that a recipient could be used for auto
filtering, for a pure eye filtering such prefix is much better. My thinking: the whole conversation is a matter of preference and because of that nothing's really going to be done about it :)

I would say that this is not only matter of preference anymore. This
list is now an exception of a "rule" that all other lists have a prefix. And for me this exception is starting to be annoying, because now I expect prefix on messages from any mailing list. Victor,
I would recommend using POPFile. There you can create a "Magnet" for mails addressed to [hidden email] to be sent to a "Bucket" that you may call VW and for which you turn on the "Subject Header Modification" feature and that should do exactly what you want.
