Visual.exe has stopped working.

Jay
Hello All,
I would like to request little bit of assistance in fixing the below problem.
We have an application written in vw5i and distributed to various users. (Standalone application).

Some of the users are complaining that they are getting the below issue while trying to install the application/while trying to run the application.

Visual.exe has stopped working. Check online for a solution and close the program.
This is been reported by Windows7 and XP users, but not all are getting this issue and apparently i am not able to replicate this issue in my machine.

My initial thought was that this could be due to the compatibility of visual.exe application. I have checked the visual.exe compatibility tab and tried the various options(Enabling the options available there). Inspite of providing the previlge level in the compatibility tab of the visual.exe application, users are still getting this problem.

If any one of you have any idea about this issue, please share. As i am not able to replicate this issue,I have to wait for the next user to report the problem.
Your input would be highly appreicated...

Regards
Jay

Is this 5i.0? Which VM version are you using? You should be able to use
at least 5i.4c.
http://www.cincomsmalltalk.com/CincomSmalltalkWiki/VisualWorks+5i.4c+eng
ines
- download link broken, try WaybackMachine: prefix with
http://web.archive.org/*/
That was released in March 2004, so should work on XP

In 5i.2 extra VMs were added to help with debugging:
http://desk.org:8080/ToytownStLab/Debugging%20VisualWorks%20at%20the%20V
M%20level

IIRC, 5i.1 was still sold as a one-time purchase with no obligatory
subscription or royalties, but by 5i.4 that had changed. If you are a
current Cincom customer you should obviously look at upgrading to a
newer VW version, since otherwise your current problems are only going
to get worse in the future.

Hopefully you can get more info from your users as to their platform and
setup (e.g. 32 vs 64-bit), locale, and what the actual error is.

Happy debugging,
Steve

When you use the Wayback Machine, the final URL looks like this - you'll need to get it all on one line:

http://web.archive.org/web/20060720140238/http://www.cincomsmalltalk.com/pub/updates/vms/vw5i.4c/vw5i.4c-win.zip

If it helps, you’ll need to check your license conditions to see if you can distribute it.
