Walkback using touch screen in Windows 8.1

Julian Ford
Hello...

I get a walkback whenever I touch my touch screen, using Windows 8.1.
This walkback occurs both in the VAST development environment (8.5 OR 8.6),
as well as my runtime app.

The walkback is "Primitive failed calling 'user32.dll':DefWindowProcA from PlatformFunction>>
#callWith:with:with:with: due to Floating point underflow.

I have tried this on multiple laptops, and a Windows tablet, and they all have the same error.

Has anyone else run into this?  Is there a fix or workaround?

Thanks!!

Regards,
Julian

Re: Walkback using touch screen in Windows 8.1

I have a similar issue with Windows 8.1 where the Paste function is not working in development environment but no walkback. That is also related to 'user32.dll'. Any idea?

Thanks,
Tad

Hi Julian,

The following describes what I believe to be the issue:
http://blog.gamecraft.org/2014/03/debugging-windows-8-1/

Have you performed the latest Update1 for your win 8.1 devices?

This is a follow up blog post from the same author verifying that the item was fixed in Microsoft cumulative update KB2919355 released on May 5th

http://blog.gamecraft.org/2014/04/windows-8-1-repaired/

Of course, I still need to know if this is the same issue, so any information anybody can provide would be great.

Re: Walkback using touch screen in Windows 8.1

Julian Ford
Hello, Seth.

The update mentioned in the blog has, in fact, fixed the problem on my laptop!!!
I will be rolling out this information to my 2 clients, and hopefully they will also
get working again.

Thank you for finding this and passing it along!

I will admit, I had not done the updates, but did not think a Microsoft bug could
cause a runtime error in VA.  Lesson learned.

If anyone else is needing to apply update KB2919355, please note that you must first apply KB2919442 first.
I applied both of these updates manually, to verify that these particular updates were what was needed.

THANKS AGAIN!!!!

Julian

Hi Julian,

My pleasure...glad this turned out to be the issue.
Thank you for providing the fix path...I'm sure this won't be the last time we hear about it so it's nice to have this on record.
