Website design proposal, please comment

Dear all,

Having the logo we need to redesign our website accordingly. And Janja
is in her excellent mood again, preparing a website design already:

I'd like to hear your comments so that we can finish the design this
week already. So hurry a bit, comment everything, what you like, what
not, first impression, after one day one ..

Hi Janko;

Long time, no post :(

The new design seems to be excellent at a first sight! Let's see how it
will be rendered with a bunch of div and CSS...

The only two points I see are more details than real stuff:
- The 'doctor' beside the big 'this is how the web works' is in a
rectangle that has not the same white than its container

- On the bottom right, it seems that the website is powered by GNU
smalltalk, is it the case?

- The Documentation tabs has an other color than the other. Is it on
purpose?

not so bad, really :-) The only thing I'm not satisfied with is the
area between blue bar (menu) and the text. The position of the
"download" is not optimal, for example. Perhaps there could be a
little bit more white areas in general, so between the different
columns or text blocks etc.

But anyway, really really not bad, and of course just my personal
taste ;-)

Hi,
yes it looks good. But i would prefer a standard design for the boxes, there are some with solid, some with gradient and one with no fill. I think it would be better, when every box have the same design. An other point is the logo box under menu in the middle. It looks quite better when the background of the 'man' is transparent. The two different gradients are clashing.

Hi again,

on the second glance, it looks a bit overcrowded. Perhaps some more whitespace between header, menu and body can open the layout. The search input field could also be bit smaller.

from the positive feelings:

fresh, modern, appropriate to Web 2.0, professional, seriosly (in the
sense of non-chaotic, ordered)

from the negative feelings:

a little bit cold, a little bit dense, a little bit seriously (in the
sense of boring)

I like the colours, the graphics and content, it is clean and simple.
However the page looks too busy, it has too much on it and would benefit from more white space. A greater sense of space could perhaps be created by reducing the overall page size, maybe taking out the right hand column and combining it with the centre column.
