What do I look for in Web Hosting for Dolphin?

I bookmarked the thread where Steve and Andy talked about web hosting for
Dolphin (http://groups.google.co.uk/group/comp.lang.smalltalk.dolphin/browse_thread/thread/8099b8d234968e4d/7f05e6728fdf2e96?lnk=gst&q=hosting&rnum=8#7f05e6728fdf2e96)
- and have been kicking around the idea of setting up something small scale
to play around with.

However I'm a bit confused about what I would need to host a dolphin web
image (say running swazoo as a simple start).

In the back of my head I'm thinking I don't to have to mess around too much
- do I need a full hosted server? Or is there something that will apply patches
for me and I can just keep my image running on a particular port. However
I guess its the last bit thats the rub, as to run my image does that exclude
me from using some of the cheap yearly packages I see?

What is the miniumum access I need, can I do something with CGI (although
most seem geared up for python).

Tips, hints or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If you want to play around without limitations you need to have admin
access. Once you have that, you can RDP into the server and run an
image or executable, or whatever you want to do.

The two options are a dedicated server or a virtual server.

You could pick up a dedicated celeron Win2003 standard for around US$89
per month from the planet ... although it pays to keep an eye out for
their specials where you could probably pick one up for $10 - $20 less.

You should be able to find a virtual server package for a cheaper
price, although I am not familiar with this market. A quick google
search turned up http://www.vpsland.com which is saying $22 a month
with admin access via RDP.

I would think so. You might be able to find an admin who would trust
you to run an executable on a shared server, but most standard packages
will not allow this. As far as running an image ...  I think the admin
would have to be either extremely knowledgeable or completely negligent
to allow you to install an image on a shared server :)

It's not suitable for production, and I have a list of pending
modifications I'll try to integrate sooner than later.

However, works for most purposes.

Not really, but here (at work) we're doing some testbed developments
with it, so we're fixing some bugs on Swazoo/Sport/Seaside (3S).
