Why do some versioned applications remail purple?

Carl Gundel-2
Sometimes when I version an application is remains purple so I cannot version its parent application.  There is no option to release it, so in order to move forward I must create a new edition and release it and then version it again.  When I do this I don't make any code changes.  I'm only doing this because I am forced to do it.

Any ideas why this happens?

Thanks,

-Carl

Is this just a bug? What am I doing wrong? Why should it be necessary to create, and version an application again just to get it to turn black?

Hi Carl,

versions of subapplications remains purple when they are loaded and not released into the application. To do this, click in the context menu under "Subapplication" -> "Release". And if you have the rights to do this, then the color of your subapplication will not be purple anymore and your parent application is ready to version.

Hope this helps..

Klaus

Klaus,

When I pop up that menu and I see the Subapplications submenu my expectation is that the items in that menu will apply to subapplications of the currently selected application, so I just didn't look there for the Release item.  It baffled me that I could not release an application after versioning it, but now I know how to do it.

Thanks,

-Carl

One of the interesting facets of ENVY is that versioning is entirely separate from releasing. I consider it a positive, but it does take some "getting used to".

Hi Carl,

you don't have to release only versioned subapplications, it works also with versions of subapplications. I use this very often.
I'm working with Envy for nearly 20 years and it is the best version control system I know.. Everytime when I was forced to use Subversion, Store, CVS or others, I feel punished ;)

Kind regards

Klaus
