Re: moose meeting at esug

Guillaume Larcheveque
Wednesday seems perfect for everybody and then we can have a drink all together; sounds good :-)

See you at Esug

2016-08-18 12:27 GMT+02:00 stepharo <[hidden email]>:
I checked with the local organiser: the social event per se starts at 19h.

so we have time for the moose meeting before. I would like to have the synectique people at this meeting.

I know that I should not say it :) I do not know exactly when the social event starts but it will not start
at 16h30. I think that I should change the schedule to mark free time then social event.
I will ask the local organiser to tell me the exact dates.

So I suggest that we can do it at 16h30 wednesday

Hi,

We can move it, but Wednesday we have the social event. We could do it Thursday at 6:30 pm. Or we can do two :). What do people say?

Cheers,

Re: moose meeting at esug

Anne Etien
Hi,

Since we get a two year engineer position to enhance the heart (FAMIX and FAME) of Moose, I prepared some slides. So it could be good if we can have access to a video projector.

See you in Prague.

Tudor Girba-2
Hi Anne,

I would prefer to have a conversation, rather than presentations.

Would it be possible to send the slides here so that we can look at them beforehand?

Cheers,
Doru

Thanks Anne. A good list. Here are some more:

Name resolving is something we now do custom for each language.
Some more generic tooling for that might be worthwhile too.

Support for systems consisting of multiple languages would be
helpful. Systems using SQL stored procedures and another language,
or XML configuration files are very common.

I also tend to need to model connected artifacts: JIRA tickets,
requirements, releases.

"20mn are currently needed to load a 1 million elements model. "
20 million what? The inheritance depth and #instVars in current FAMIX
are problematic indeed. It is much too easy to run out of memory.

The storage of calculated measurements also needs changes:
mostly I calculate the same measurements for all (or a group of)
methods/classes/units. Storing them in a dictionary for each instance
is very wasteful.

Re: moose meeting at esug

Stephan Eggermont-3
In Delphi parsing we noted a hierarchical/DAG storage might be useful, with queries merging search results.
That would make it possible to do (partially) parallel import of multiple files, and perhaps even have multi-image models

Indeed. At the moment they are mostly based on csv imports, sometimes an island parser. It would be good to actually use the API instead

Re: moose meeting at esug

Tudor Girba-2
In reply to this post by Anne Etien
Hi,

Thanks, Anne.

I also think it is interesting to look at the meta-model and meta-meta-model. I have some ideas as well, but I am curious to hear your concerns in more details. We definitely need more modular possibilities and a smaller footprint.

One constraint that is important is to keep the mapping to the Pharo objects as straightforward as possible. We currently have a 1-to-1 mapping, and this is important to preserve.

Another issue to keep into consideration if we modify the meta-meta-model is to provide a compatible solution for Java (and possibly other languages).

In the meantime, here a list of some of my issues:
- More importers, ideally for JS, .Net and C/C++
- Visual editors for manipulating meta-description (there is a start in the inspector now)
- Integration of the SmaCC ASTs in the tools
- PetitParser review
- Duplication detector

Cheers,
Doru

Re: moose meeting at esug

BriceG
Hi,
for the slides, I think we can use one of the room we have. I’m gonna ask to Gabriela if it is possible to use one of the two rooms after 4 pm for the discussion (the hall is way too hot to meet there =))
Is it ok for you?
