tiny survey: who uses Pharo Launcher?

EstebanLM
Hi,
We want to know a bit more about Pharo Launcher, so please, answer this three points if you are using it:

1) which platform are you using?
2) is the experience satisfactory/easy enough?
3) do you have some feedback for us (bah, for Damien :P)?

thanks,
Esteban

Re: tiny survey: who uses Pharo Launcher?

nacho
Esteban,
I use it a lot, in Mac OS X. One thing that I noticed is that even if you delete an image from the Launcher, the image stays in ~/Library/Preferences/Pharo/templateCache as a .zip file. If you download a lot of images then this directory grows considerable.
Best

Hi Esteban,

I use only Pharo Launcher for several months:

1/ ArchLinux, 64 bits

2/ Yes, great improvement in managing images

3/ Suggestions:
- show created & last opened date for existing images. Option to sort by date or alphabetically
- add a comment field for existing images so I could remember why I have this image
- add a search field for templates & existing images
- bookmark some templates (I often download Seaside or Phratch, tired to scroll down)
- get the descriptions of the jenkins jobs to know what each template is about
- notification that a new version of PharoLauncher is available
- manage common preferences in PharoLauncher:
   - shared package-cache
   - prepare each new image with a set of Metacello configuration & preferences

Hi,
We want to know a bit more about Pharo Launcher, so please, answer this three points if you are using it:

1) which platform are you using?

Gentoo Linux 64-bit

2) is the experience satisfactory/easy enough?

Yes.

3) do you have some feedback for us (bah, for Damien :P)?

There are some things that could be improved, in my opinion, such as:

- Location of the images
Currently I have the launcher files on ~/launcher, and a symbolic link ~/launcher/images pointing to wherever the actual images are stored (I already forgot where).

- Updating of the launcher image itself
As far as I can tell there is no simple way to do it, but I may be using a too old version or something :)

On the other hand there are some nice side-effects such as having to install additional files, like libsodium.so, in just one place and every image will be able to use them.

As for the ubuntu package, I´m not using any of them. While I agree that having a package is good, even if it´s just for visibility, I prefer the increased flexibility of having this kind of things in a folder inside the home of whoever is going to use it (my home for development, /srv/pier for a pier installation, etc..).

Cheers,
Sergi
