[vwnc] FW: List Access

Scott McWilliams
Per James Robertson, I am posting this question here.  Does anyone have experience with this?

Scott

Well, this question should properly be tossed to the vwnc mailing list, because vw-dev is a separate kind of thing.  We release the NC product as we release new versions of the product; we release vw-dev weekly, as a rolling snapshot of internal development progress.  The purpose of vw-dev is to give early access to the upcoming version of VW and OST to customers, partners, and other interested parties who are:

-- interested in giving Cincom feedback on whether changes made impact their projects (presumably based on an earlier version of the product)
-- interested in testing new features/changes early in the development cycle so as to ensure that they can roll out their own new versions shortly after Cincom executes a release

We don't expect casual users to use the vw-dev program, nor do we expect people to be building research projects using it.  For that kind of thing, you should really take a look at vwnc, and ask the question on that mailing list.

Thanks,

Jim,

Could you clarify, or at least try to explain in lay terms, the definition of 'commercial'?  Specifically, how might it apply to the development of an application that could be used by either a commercial or non-commercial (educational, governmental) entity, but not specifically developed with intent of making a profit?  For example, is using VWNC analogous to, say, using Eclipse + open-source Java libraries?  What about profit from services related to the application (deployment, maintenance, etc)?  I am assuming those would fall under the 'must have a contract' portion but I'd like to know for sure.

Apologies in advance if this has been answered elsewhere.

Regards,
Scott
