We had VMware installed on my PC on top of Win-XP.
About 10 times a day (or more) I would get a
"not-found" on a network mounted file.
(This was on the underlying Win-XP).
After much playing around, we found a few things
1. it only ever occurred visibly in VW
2. once it occurred in VW, attempting access a file
on that mapped drive via windows would do nothing
quietly -- then start working after a few seconds (20 or 30)
3. keeping a windows window open on a folder via that map
would reduce the occurrences drastically
4. it SEEMED that it got worse at night when the servers
on our network were heavily loaded doing cross-system
backups -- but I am not 100% sure if that is the case or not
5. turning off VMware did not reduce the occurrences
6. uninstalling VMware stopped the problems totally
Anyone seen this type of thing? have any thoughts on it?
