Works fine for me on Ubuntu 7.10 (32-bit) under VMWare 5.5. Maybe your
problem is with your locale - at least with earlier versions that has been a common source of problems. I have LANG=en_US.UTF-8 Another problem might be fonts: make sure you have Adobe's Helvetica and Courier for your screen dpi and encoding. Mine are like this: -adobe-helvetica-medium-r-normal--12-120-75-75-p-67-iso8859-1 HTH, Steve > -----Original Message----- > From: [hidden email] [mailto:[hidden email]] On > Behalf Of Andrey Larionov > Sent: 30 September 2008 15:31 > To: Joachim Tuchel > Cc: [hidden email] > Subject: Re: [vwnc] Problem installing VWNC 7.6 on Ubuntu 7.10 (32 bit) > > Yes, i'm sure. I've been running VW on Fedora pretty much exclusively for past few years (currently Fedora 8). VW for Linux is being built and tested on verious versions of RedHat Linux. But it's definitely been run on Debian based distributions too, and I believe we do have customers deploying on those as well. I'm not sure what's the problem in your case, but I would definitely look into the issues that Steven pointed out first. Try running it with the US locale, see what happens. It should be possible to run under other Locales too, but between Locale, fonts, and the aging Xlib APIs it's always possible to run into a configuration that just doesn't work. Another possible source of this kind of trouble are the message catalogs. If you have messages/ directory in your install, try renaming it to something that VW won't recogn! ize. The key is preventing VW from finding the catalogs and making it fall back to the default english messages. Yes, i'm sure. Only if Cincom distribute it on 7.6 ISO image. And by Yes, I use VW in Ubuntu 7.10. And I had no problem with the installation, but I didn't use the net installer. What did I do?: 1) I mount the iso, 2) then I copy all files to an specific folder (ie: /home/lautaro/CincomCD/), 3) give them permissions as 777, 4) to finally run the script. I recommend you not to use folder with spaces like: '/home/lautaro/some folder/Cincom', although I don't know if this is your case. (It brought me some problems to run my images) This 4 steps has always been successful for me. Hope this helps you. Bye Lautaro PS: sorry Andrey Larinov for the double email. Okey, I'll try all sugesstions, but can anybody explain something
about Helvetica. Where can i get it? On Tue, Sep 30, 2008 at 18:26, Lautaro Fernández <[hidden email]> wrote: > 2008/9/30 Andrey Larionov <[hidden email]> >> >> Yes, i'm sure. You can check you have the -adobe-helvetica fonts by looking at the output of xlsfonts. However, Ubuntu 7.10 can get into a situation where it claims to have the font, but then refuses to supply it to VW. See the earlier conversation:
http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.comp.lang.smalltalk.vwnc/14475/focus=14492 If you haven't already, it's thus worth trying the following line even if xlsfonts claims the font is available: sudo apt-get install gsfonts-x11 I suspect this is all part of the interconnected set of bugs in Ubuntu reported by Pete Hatch: http://launchpad.net/bugs/52163 HTH, Steve Andrey Larionov wrote: > Okey, I'll try all sugesstions, but can anybody explain something > about Helvetica. I want to say thank you for everybody. I successfuly run VWNC. Yes,
it's a locale aware problem. Setting to en_US helps.
