[vwnc] SQLServer or Postgres for STore?

Stew MacLean

I already have SQLServer installed, but wondering if there are any advantages in using Postgres (or something else) for Store?

Thanks,

Stewart

Most likely, whatever you are most comfortable with will be fine.  I'm not aware of any database-specific features or problems.

I personally use Postgres on Linux for Store, since Bruce Badger (who did all the work on this) is very responsive WRT questions and issues.  But I have also used Store for Access on Windows systems, and that works fine as well.

I am using PostGRE on Linux, HP and Windows. Works fine on all systems.
I don't see any advantage of using SQLServer.

SQLServer runs only on Windows, while PostgreSQL does run everywhere (
Win32, Linux, etc.).  I do have master store repository  on Linux, but
always do replicate it onto my laptop with Windows XP.  Unlike
SQLServer, PostgreeSql is less intrusive into your system configuration
as well.

I guess main advantage that the PostgreSQl more in line with the VW
platform portability then SQLserver.
