Whilst looking to see what the state of downloading instructions etc
for 3.8.1 looked like I noticed that the UIUC ftp site seems to be quite out of step with the ftp.squeak.org site. This could lead to serious confusion, not to say time wasting. Are we able to correct this? Is the UIUC site no longer active? I note that the swiki page on 'Squeak FTP Site' (http:// minnow.cc.gatech.edu/squeak/3699) refers to the UIUC site as the master. The 'Downloading Squeak' (http://minnow.cc.gatech.edu/squeak/ 388) page refers to both places fairly indiscriminately. It also mis- pointed to '.changes file' when really meaning 'image' in 'What You Need' but I could fix that part easily enough. We really could do with an official 3.8.1 release set sometime, with the pointer to the stable release being updated to refer to it, and a directory to put the release files in would be good too. Also on the 'Downloading Squeak' page the mention of 3.9 seems a bit out of date. It's also very embarrasing to have - "There are still a considerable number of packages on SqueakMap which has not been tested yet with 3.8, so you might still need 3.7 in certain cases. " still there 15 months later. Actually I would suggest that the entire page could do with rewriting once we have the newest information available. And it seems that trying to get to 'http://squeak.org/Download/' is pretty broken; all I can get is 'Bad Gateway' though I couldn't honestly say whether that is a fault wth squeak.org or my ISP! tim -- tim Rowledge; [hidden email]; http://www.rowledge.org/tim Strange OpCodes: SG: Show Garbage |

Looks like the image died but the Apache mod_proxy frontend is still running. Not a problem with you ISP. Philippe |
