People what think Spoon is too small and Squeak 3.9 is too big.
Enero (January) is at end, Summer is very nice here and as part of students training all this days we "discover" many things, have a lot of fun and continue finding classes and methods what SqueakLight need. When this happen, we take the code of Squeak 3.9a6705. The current version is SqueakLight3.7.4.zip and is on my ftp and in http://www.4shared.com/file/715982/6db2fc3d/SqueakLight374.html , just in case you have troubles. The current fixes is 3.7.1 fixes.6.cs Also in my ftp and in http://www.4shared.com/file/757451/16442ed2/371_fixes6.html If you wish keep update, download, go to change sorter and clear the previous fixes and fileIn the new. ftp://[hidden email]/ password: elpelotero And if really wish know what could do feeding it. http://200-122-104-133.cab.prima.net.ar:8888 (Swikis) Ani swiki is keeping for now the SqueakLight development news. Now what I figure how set up and run an AniAniWeb , again say MUCHAS GRACIAS to Jeff by veeeery cool work. http://200-122-104-133.cab.prima.net.ar:9000/seaside/blog/SummerTeam/ http://200-122-104-133.cab.prima.net.ar:9000/seaside/blog/SqueakLightChronil es / http://200-122-104-133.cab.prima.net.ar:8085 "ServerInfo, form here you culd see what is running and try" All running in SqueakLight, open to who care. >From 09:00 to 23:00 GMT (aproximate) http://wiki.gnulinex.org/squeakros (hosting provided by good people in Spain) And maybe the 470.000 Euros do what follow my old advice. Find a Spanish speaking kid near to you and exchange Squeak learning for Spanish learning and both, you and the kid start to have a bigger world. But also could be blackouts or other troubles here. For all experiments running , well this are "experiments", and something could do not work. I wish know what the trouble was and also if you try something on SqueakLight and do not work. Remember what this is a hand cut image. The last fixes .cs was just for running the Tables example sended today and a couple of this week resolved fixes. Thanks !!! Yes, I installed a DrGeoII Monticello package (demo at http://people.ofset.org/hilaire/drgeo2/demo/1-triangle/), it went just fine. However I fail to run DrGeoII because it uses a Flaps based user interface which appear to not be present in SqueakLight. I will have to figure out a different DrGeoII user interface to get it work with SqueakLight (maybe proposing an alternate menu driven solution). Keep the good work! Hilaire Fernandes |

I look for DrGeoII and find a solution. Goal of SqueakLight. Try to find the hard way what the real minimal Morphic .image was. Develop a system for loading what he needs from any past or current (to 6705). Try to have more closer to Smalltalk (that's why no Etoys,no Traits, no Flash, etc, following Juan Vuletich idea). Try to figure out a way, inspired in current .morph and .pr exporting what not always work, for no matter what image originate the object (at morph level ) always you could load into SqueakLight. Off course, have the small size what worth, so it could run in handicapped hardware as most Argentina (and other poor countries) school have. The day after a Flaps.xxx.mcz shows in any package repository know by me , in a few days you have it on SqueakLight. In the waiting, think in a Parts bin as repository , that's how I change the LogicCircus from original with flaps for run in small images without. I thought about Parts bin but it is not compatible with the interaction model within DrGeoII: with Parts bin you are taking a part and move it in the drawable but instead in DrGeoII you interactively build the part in the drawable (for example to design an arc you select (or create on-fly) three points one after the other one) Hilaire |

> I am curious what is your average hardware (CPU and RAM)? Very, very hard to tell. Richer Provincias (States) and better ruled could have something between a Pentium I to Pentium III range , many schools do not have any computer. And I can't imagine how could the situation is on those where kids literally are starving to death. Each year have two o three cases , central government do much noise and nothing useful. Santa Fe (mine) is a oasis where we have what could say a better government and Rosario is the only mayor city with Socialist (no Peronistas) on board. And 20 years of this shows a big difference. > I thought about Parts bin but it is not compatible with the interaction > model within DrGeoII: with Parts bin you are taking a part and move it > in the drawable but instead in DrGeoII you interactively build the part > in the drawable (for example to design an arc you select (or create > on-fly) three points one after the other one) Not having code for try , I can't say. >From beautiful pictures on your site I don't sure if you can't do otherwise. It is a bit off topic, but at OFSET we have developped, based on knoppix, freeduc-cd for schools, it is live-cd you can installl and used on 5-7 years old computers like Celeron300Mhz class with 64-96Mb of Ram. Check http://www.ofset.org/freeduc-cd and http://community.ofset.org/wiki/Freeduc-cd_how_to for installation. It includes Squeak. Hilaire |

Hi!
I tried SqueakLight. It looks nice. Some bugs I found after few minutes of try: - Double click on the bin and you get an exception - If I click on the book, bottom right, I got a file browser. Once I selected a folder, I got an exception - If I try to move the tool bar, I got a lot of exception. I've got few questions: - Why do you want to deal with changesets ? Why not Monticello ? - It seems SqueakLight is based on a 3.7. Why not a 3.9 ? - I feel that "SqueakLight" is not really a sexy name... For someone that does not know squeak at all, "SqueakLight" looks strange, IMHO. Regards, Alexandre Am Jan 28, 2006 um 11:24 AM schrieb Lic. Edgar J. Still another problem is primary schools do not have computer trained personal. I try to download the CD and begin a campaign to found some school what let we help. A just cause for Advocatus Diaboli. Once I >> selected a folder, I got an exception I suppose you don't have a SqueakBooks with your own saved "MiStack". Could grave what it's on my ftp for having something to look and play. This part is in progress to (a help system with a Squeak resident private and a web access public) I guess you have a empty collection complain > - If I try to move the tool bar, I got a lot of exception. I check this, The button bar on bottom should stay in bottom and do not should move. Also you could have the common tools by click in the World. > - Why do you want to deal with changesets ? Why not Monticello ? The fact is the baby have Monticelllo and friends like 3.9. Understand this, .cs (old way, and you are right) and "emporwements", code compress .sqz what extend SqueakLight > - I feel that "SqueakLight" is not really a sexy name... For someone > that does not know squeak at all, "SqueakLight" looks strange, IMHO. Why you don't like that name ? You don't have the markets full of products whit the Light label in Swizerland ?:=) I wish know how you wish this was called. > It seems SqueakLight is based on a 3.7. Why not a 3.9 ? SqueakLight have three authors or people what work on 3.7 shrink. Owns a lot to Pavel Krivanek and his Small image and to Steven Swerling and his QuiteSmall image. And to my old team partners Dan, Ned and Juan (between others) At this moment could load any normal code produced by 3.8 or 3.9 (until 6705) And have a couple of years behind ,a 3.4 start history. What it's my goal. A small practical morphic only, could reduced to about 3.6 mb and grown to 3.9 when completed the "emporwements" For starters, is better deal with a reduced class set. And could run in more handicapped harwdware. And for people what wish pack finished apps, let you do the development on full version, save your .mcz, load on SqueakLight and deliver a app in less of 5mb if you know the bussiness. I have all my experiments running in souped SqueakLight and a SqueakLightServer in 4.5 mb. Again , very thanks for your time, and try to fix all.
