I am usually the person who follows up on problems like this, although I will be traveling in the next couple of days and I may not be able to resolve this promptly. Can you please say the initials that you are using when registering the new squeaksource.com account? Thanks for your patience and my apologies in advance if I can't get it fixed right away. Dave,
Thanks for the quick response. No rush on the setup. Initials I tried are RAK. Robert Kuropkat Sent from my iPhone > On Oct 22, 2020, at 4:00 PM, David T. Hi Robert,
I tested this by running a copy of squeaksource.com on my own personal PC to see what would happen. I was suspecting some problem related to a conflict in author initials (because I have seen that happen before). But I did not actually find any problem when I tested it this way. Here is what I did (on my local PC, not on the real squeaksource.com server): - From the "Home" tab, selected "Register Member" - On the "Register Member" page, I entered this: Name: Robert Kuropkat Initials: RAK Password: password Confirmation: password E-Mail: <my email> Description: Dave Lewis testing - I then clicked the "Save" button. This resulted in a new RAK account (again, just on my testing PC, not on the real squeaksource.com server). I was then able to log in as RAK, so it all looked good. I cannot see anything wrong, but clearly something was not working when you did this on the real squeaksource.com server. Could I ask you to please try registering once again, and see if it works this time? Please let us know either way, because clearly something is wrong and I would like to find what it is. Thanks, Dave On Thu, Oct 22, 2020 at 04:08:42PM -0400, [hidden email] wrote: > Dave, > > Thanks for the quick response. No rush on the setup. It should be working now, can please try once more?
I overlooked the problem because I had only tried it after logging in, d'oh! Thanks very much for reporting this. I am afraid that we have been blocking new user registration for a number of months without realizing that there was a problem. The problem was caused by some recent updates to make the squeaksource.com server compatible with the source.squeak.org server. Unfortunately this made it a little *too* compatible in this case, so I reverted the member registration method to its earler version, and all seems well now.
