All-in-one download of Squeak 4.2

Joaquin Sitte
I have just installed Squeak 4.2 in Windows XP using the only available download option (All-in-One) from www.squeak.org
It does not decompress as described under the link "Need installation help" which is a nuisance, but more importantly there is no apparent way to open Squeak with any other image than the one downloaded (4.2-10966). There is no menu option and all the ways described under the Windows installation page of the documentation do not work.

How can I select the image I want to work with in 4.2?

Thanks

Joaquin

Hi Joaquin,

JS> How can I select the image I want to work with in 4.2?

you have to edit the squeak.ini file, remove the last line.

You also may want to set enableAltF4Quit to 1.

And yes it took me some time to figure it out.

I think this came out wrong. I meant to say that it was absolutely non
obvious to me how to make it work and I felt with you :-))

Hi Herbert,

Thanks for that!
I had thought that it should be an option in the preferences (if one ever wanted this to be an option)
In any case, someone should update the install instructions on the squeak.org website. Let me tell whoever came up with the All-in-One download idea that I do not really appreciate it.  If I hadn't used Squeak Smalltalk before, I would have said: Ah! Squeak is another of those immature freeware and would have never come back.

Thanks again

Joaquin
