Esteban and I have discussed alternate schemes that would be
supported by Metacello directly instead of by a platform-specific
extension like Iceberg-Metacello. Esteban threatened to implement
something based on our discussion, but perhaps both of us are too
busy to go beyond the discussion stage ...
I expect to do some fairly major work on Metacello in the next 6
months or so and if Esteban hasn't pulled the trigger on something
by then I will ... BTW, I've been expecting to this "major work"
for a year now:).

The (primary) reason I ask is because IIUC one has
to enable Iceberg-Metacello integration to enable gitlab://
URL support. I tried to do this in a preLoadDoIt, but it
doesn't work because processing fails before the doIt is run
:/ NB It's a private project, so I also need to access the
repo via SSH key auth…
