There are indeed several ironies. The first one is that even in my best
configured Firefox (linux) all demos result in a gray window (the webgl
stuff). But that's not the most preeminent irony... the thing that
amazes me is that the stuff about virtual worlds goes the Latin American
way: since people didn't succeed with some implementation, let's do
exactly the same thing using a different technology...
IMHO the biggest problem with VW technologies (except in areas related
to entertainment video games) is that nobody is capable of answering
that old "where is the money?" question. Where is the money in SL? Where
is the money in Alice? Where is the money in OpenWonderland? ... The
silence around this question has had interesting effects: SL (Linden
Labs) threw the towel and are repositioning their product as a kind of
"open massive online multiplayer game platform".
