Hi all.
I'd like to make a small complaint about the duration of the election. I can only check Squeak-based email when I have time, and sometimes this might mean only in the weekends. Essentially, the election came and went before I even noticed! I received my election email on the 5th of March mentioning that the election was closing in two days. I saw this email long after the election had closed. Could we please have a longer voting time next time, preferably of at least a week with the times announced further in advance? Michael. |

I would like that as well. I missed the election, just like with last year. We are a global community of volunteers. A lot of us have limited and irregular time to contribute to Squeak. As a point of comparison, here is Debian's timeline this year for electing a project leader: Nomination period: Feb 4th - Feb 25th (3 weeks) Campaigning period: Feb 25th - Mar 18th (3 weeks) Voting period: Mar 18th - Apr 8th (3 weeks) Incidentally, I received no email at all. I guess I must be registered incorrectly somewhere. Lex |
One clear conclusion the elections team has already come to is that the
voting ballot should not be the first mail we send out to voters using their account information. Sending a preliminary email would give more chances to correct such problems. Also there should probably be a specific warning email asking people to make sure their SqP accounts are up to date. So, Michael, how far in advance do you think the voting schedule should be announced? Just curious. In any case, having a longer voting time might be a good idea. Any objections? I haven't found any. One clear conclusion the elections team has already come to is that the Well, 7 days should be given for voting as a minimum. I tend to do things weekend to weekend - my working week is usually a mad rush with no free time. Considering that the elections don't really hold anything up, there's no reason we couldn't use the 9-week schedule that Debian uses. |
