Fwd: [grid.ied] RAIN DAY - EVENT CANCELED (Re: Today at 4pm EST - Immersive Education Platform Ecosystem and Education Grid status and review

Julian Lombardi
All,

Second Life came unavailable for the same reasons that 3rd party large-scale server-based architectures should not be relied on to support mission-critical virtual worlds in any serious way.  The attached messages underscore the importance and timeliness of our efforts to bring forward an open source alternative application for the community.

Don't know, we can't run Second Life in our two labs now with the new client. I am desperately in search of an open source client with lighter system requirements, or else PacRimX is going to be ex-PacRimX.  I am going to test the RealXtend Viewer next week (http://pacificrimx.wordpress.com/2008/04/11/great-day-for-a-meeting-not/).  It's been a bad week all the way around.

And yes, that was me in the black suit with the yellow tie (which was color coordinated with the color scheme of the pool area).  Which avatar were you?  Check pic at our blog to see if you were sitting in the next lounge chair (http://pacificrimx.wordpress.com/2008/04/11/great-day-for-a-meeting-not/).

Rain, rain, go away!

I knew something was very wrong when only about 5 people were there when the meeting was supposed to start. Usually we have about 10x that many, averaging somewhere between 30 and 60 people for each event, so it was strangely quite. Almost eerie.

I think Stan (Trevena) made it in last...right before the lock-out. Was that you Stan?

Is it just me or has Second Life been less stable since the latest upgrade?

|  Hello everyone, Second Life has been down and had reduced log-in access for the
|  past hour so most of us can't get into today's meeting. As of now (4:20pm EST)
|  I'm still locked out, and so are most of the others although it appears that 5
|  people made it in. Barbara was among those who made it in before the services
|  were cut off, so she's letting everyone there know we'll reschedule on account
|  of digital rain. I'll spread the word via email now, and we'll reset this event
|  for next Friday. See you all in-world soon. Aaron
