After giving the matter some thought I have decided that I will not be
running for the Squeak Oversight Board again this year. I need to spend more time developing my business. Anyone who is at all interested in running for the Oversight Board this year should start soon as the election is only about a month away. Also, I've decided that it's time to pass the Box-Admins team leader reins on to someone else. I took over from Cees de Groot sometime in 2005 and overall I've enjoyed the job. But as mentioned above I need to reclaim some time and this task could use some new blood. While I generally have had sufficient technical skills, my social skills are not so great and I have done poorly at delegating. While there are a few people like Cees, Göran Krampe, and Marcus Denker around when I really need help (witness events last October), by and large I've tended to do the job on my own. This is not a great idea and I suggest anyone considering the job plan to try harder to actually have an active team than I have. I would be happy to talk to anyone interested and explain the situation in more detail. I don't intend to just disappear. First of all I'm willing to continue as the Box-Admins team leader until as late as June 1st, 2010. I imagine it may take some time to find someone with sufficient interest, time, and ability. And I will likely continue as a team member past that date and intend to be reachable by email or other contact info on my Swiki page on into the future. Ken, you have done an absolutely outstanding job with Box-Admins and we all owe you a great thank you. Well done and thank you for all that you have done. Anyone who has ever had anything to do with computer operations knows the value of a report that starts with "nothing much happened last month", so I always get a smile from one of your Box-Admins reports that starts out like a Garrison Keillor "well, it's been a quiet week in Lake Wobegon..." :) Dave |

Great work Ken, and I know that a lot of time is needed to do it.

I would like to thank Ken for the key role he had in the current board. Not only did he do a great job in communicating with the community (previously done mostly by Craig) through his reports on the board blog that he created, but he also took care of defining an agenda for each meeting and made sure all of us kept on track in our discussions. So: Thanks! -- Jecel |

Hi Ken -
Like everyone else all I can say is thank you so much for all your service! You've been one of the main driving forces behind a lot of activity in the community that's often not visible - making sure the boxes are running, making sure the meetings stay on topic, making sure we're making progress with the SFC. I'm very sad that you're not running for the board again but you've certainly earned every right to a bit of spare time for your own interests :-) Cheers, - Andreas Ken Causey wrote: > After giving the matter some thought I have decided that I will not be > running for the Squeak Oversight Board again this year. Yeah... I really need to get cracking at the election. > Also, I've decided that it's time to pass the Box-Admins team leader > reins on to someone else. I myself don't have much time either, but will try to "be around" as much as I can. > I don't intend to just disappear.
