Learn about Speech Bubbles in: Etoys 4.1 Release Candidate 1

Steve Thomas
Hi all,

One of the great new additions coming to Etoys in release 4.1 is speech bubbles. Not only can you talk in words, but also in graphics and animations. Any object can be placed in a speech bubble. Even an object of objects (like a playfield).

Try the project just posted at: http://www.squeakland.org/showcase/project.jsp?id=10274 to learn more. You will need to download the Release Candidate 4.1 (found at: http://squeakland.org/download/) to run the project.

Many thanks to Ricardo for all his hard work as part of GSoC (Google Summer of Code).

As Bert mentioned:
If you find problems, please report them in our tracker, or by replying to this mail.
       http://tracker.squeakland.org/
We are in code freeze now, only severe bugs will be touched.

Thanks,
Stephen

Hi all,

we are getting really close to this year's Etoys release. I'm copying more mailing lists than usual in hope to get some more testers :)

Here is the first release candidate (scroll down to "release candidates"):

There is a Mac installer already, and a To-Go version that works without installing on Mac, Linux, and Windows. A real Windows installer will follow, as well as a release for OLPC/Sugar.

Translations can still be updated before Sep 25 - help welcome:

The final release is scheduled for Sep 29.

For the list of changes, see below.

Thank you!

Changes since the beta release:

* pop-up arrows now enabled by default
* new DrGeo examples project (see gallery)
* new home project (green border more visible)
* Demon Castle renamed to Etoys Castle and fixed
* revised guides for English and Spanish
* DrGeoII translations for es,fr,ja,de

Folks,

There seems to be a problem with showcase at the moment, you can use this link to see the project: http://www.squeakland.org/launcher/?http://www.squeakland.org/content/showcase/everyone/accounts/mrsteve/Talking%20Squirrel.004.pr

Re: [squeakland] Learn about Speech Bubbles in: Etoys 4.1 Release Candidate 1

Randy Caton
In reply to this post by Steve Thomas
Hi All Again.

I attached a small project that uses "say object" in a speech bubble so you can update a number in a speech bubble statement. You need to use release 4.1.

I second Steve's laudatory remark regarding Ricardo, who did so much more than create the speech bubbles. See http://www.pcs.cnu.edu/~rcaton/ESUG/ESUG.html. More of his work will appear in future releases.

Randy
