What is the meaning behind the 3 globes that orbit the smalltalk logo in
Stéphane's logo. Has it been proposed to approve this logo for squeak promotion? Or is it only for the SqueakFoundation? Or? -- brad fuller www.bradfuller.com |
Dear Brad, All,
the real question is if the logo should have meaning only for people familiar to smalltlak or to anyone. Or to a minimun group like IT people. I think that the logo [ | ] has meaning only for those who love smalltalk syntax and I think that converting that into the logo of the whole system is to give too much value to a too much small part of Smalltalk and because of that it fails in representing the whole Smalltalk metaphore, cheers, Sebastian -----Mensaje original----- De: [hidden email] [mailto:[hidden email]] En nombre de Brad Fuller Enviado el: Sábado, 20 de Enero de 2007 15:34 Para: [hidden email] Asunto: Meaning behind SqueakFoundation Logo What is the meaning behind the 3 globes that orbit the smalltalk logo in Stéphane's logo. It's just something Stef put on the page he made. Personally I favour the foundation using the good old squeaky mouse logo; particularly since it would be a bit of a pain to have a logo different to the one one the foundation supporter badges I've just ordered.... tim -- tim Rowledge; [hidden email]; http://www.rowledge.org/tim Strange OpCodes: BIB: Branch If Branch if branch... |
Hi tim
just that I know, what is the format that they require because I always loved your pin. But I would like to know what is the underlying process. What is the company doing it. I spent quite some times doing some of the merchandising for squeak (with the mouse logo) and I can give the graffle files if people are interested. My idea was that the foundation should promote all the squeak related
projects: Smallland, tweak, croquet, seaside.... It should work as a core. So the foundation is the core and around you have all the projects. But if you want to do something with it, it is free. At the end if nobody does anything I will use it for what I want. (Also one idea was that having a logo that looks like a cool one and not a kid stuff was important for me I always thought about the people trying to sell project in squeak... and seeing the faces of their clients. Somehow this is too bad that the code name of etoy was taken for the complete system. Even if I like the pin with the mouse (yes I have an old one thanks to john I guess) and they were cool. > What is the meaning behind the 3 globes that orbit the smalltalk > logo in > Stéphane's logo. Thanks. I just always wondered what the circles/globes meant. No, I don't want to do anything with it. Just wondered about the design concept > > (Also one idea was that having a logo that looks like a cool one and not > a kid stuff was important for me > I always thought about the people trying to sell project in squeak... > and seeing the faces of their clients. I like the little mouse. But, I also understand that it might not be what people want to present to their client or boss. > Somehow this is too bad that the code name of etoy was taken for the > complete system. > > Even if I like the pin with the mouse (yes I have an old one thanks to > john I guess) and they were cool. It seems that there are 4 images that are consistent with squeak: 1: the colorful smalltalk balloon - not a logo, of course. 2: The mouse - used as a logo 3: The SqueakFoundation logo (I don't know if you named it that) 4: the new smalltalk logo [|] It'd be nice if there was a way to incorporate them all into one that could represent the creativeness/playfulness of the mouse, the history and "the escape from the ivory tower" feeling of the balloon and the contemporary image of the new smalltalk [|]. > >> What is the meaning behind the 3 globes that orbit the smalltalk logo in >> Stéphane's logo. Consider this an additional vote in favor of "Squeaky Mouse." It's
distinctive, simple, meaningful and, like most of Squeak itself, doesn't look "corporate." Certainly other graphical representations are fine for various uses, from Kim and B.J.'s playful 3D Squeakland version to the rather astringent [|] discussed here recently, but I believe Squeaky is and should remain the "official" logo.
