[OFF-TOPIC] Word from Kyoto (was Re: [Vm-dev] SVN email commit notifications)

Casey Ransberger-2

Folks, forgive me for being an email philanthropist. Ian, who is alive and well, recommends this link to folks who want to help with the situation. He probably wouldn't spam the list with it, but I suppose such a social transgression is what I'm here to do.

He pointed me at the below link, which reduces the barrier to contribution about as far as it'll go, recommends the Japanese Red Cross, and stresses that you *don't* want your local chapter, but the Japanese Red Cross:

http://www.google.com/crisisresponse/japanquake2011.html

Since a few people on the list have expressed a desire to help out, I figured I'd step right over the off-topic issue and just click send on my way to get the contingency card out of the safe.

There are supposed to be update notifications for both. If svn updates
are not appearing, there may be something that needs attention on our
squeakvm.org server. If so, it may have to wait a while as I believe
that Ian is in Japan now and may have more urgent things to worry about.
Hopefully he and our other friends in Japan are safe; let's all keep
them in our thoughts and prayers.

Dave

Casey, thanks for your "transgression". I just used your link to make
a donation to the Japanese Red Cross. It is hard to know how to help at
a time like this, so your tip is appreciated.
