Omnibrowser and scrolling on left

Martial Boniou
Hi,

I am working with the latest dev-beta images from Damien Cassou. It
worked great until the last upgrades (from 107 to 116/118). I found the
latest omnibrowser is not compatible with my image look'n feel. As I was
a NeXT user, I do like to use the native scrolling/scrollBarsOnRight
inactive preference (so I have the scrollbars on the left) and with this
option PackageUniverse, PierBrowser... don't work (the upper columns
have disappeared).

So the only way to use (especially for the new UniversesBrowser) is to
display scrollbar on the right (so unnatural for me hopefully I've got a
mousewheel). I hope avi knows that (it looks like there are a lot of
changes in the core of Omnibrowser).

Regards,

Martial Boniou

Have you upgraded your image or downloaded a new one. If you upgraded,
can you try with a new image please?

Hi,

I tested on:
- upgrade from dev-107 to 116
- new image 116
- new image 118W

I took a screenshot. The normal UUBrowser is displayed with the
scrollbar-on-right option else it yields a bug.

The screenshot is here:

If you know Morphic a bit, you can have a look at OB-Morphic package.
I can't help you here, sorry. If you find a solution, please let us
know.

Bye

I don't know Morphic enough. I browsed thru the other browsers class and
it seems that every others got a conditional clause for Preferences
scrollBarsOnRight. SystemWindow use addMorphBack: to switch but I don't
understand well the way OBPanel is coded. I will try to look around if I
have time.

Should I report such a bug on Mantis? I know there are changes in the
core of OB so maybe it's a temporary bug which came from some short
hacks.

Cheers,

Yes, this is a bug. The latest OB is independent of any GUI and uses a
special package to do the UI. I ported this package to 3.9 so that it
produces a useable GUI. I didn't change much from the orignal code, so
it would be the best to try the latest OB in Squeak 3.7 and 3.8 to see
if it breaks there as well when the scroll bars are on the left.

Cheers,
Lukas
