I've just found a link to a set of videos and lecture notes from Ralph
Johnson's lectures on Smalltalk (based on VisualWorks I believe): http://st-www.cs.uiuc.edu/users/johnson/cs497/notes98/online-course.html The lecture notes are accessible, but the video links seem to be dead. Does anyone know if they are still accessible anywhere? _______________________________________________ Beginners mailing list [hidden email] http://lists.squeakfoundation.org/mailman/listinfo/beginners |

I'm pretty sure Ralph teaches in Squeak, not Visual Works. I recall watching his video lectures last year as well, all were in Squeak. However to access course materials you have to enrol through UIUC ...ie those materials are not available to anyone on a budget. Is it a matter of time before a UIUC student (with access to the videos) leaks them and they end up on youtube? A more controlled event would be for Ralph to publish them with the university's permission. It would be a great advertisement for UIUC's killer CS school. - Dave _________________________________________________________________ Advertisement: Getting married? someone should approach them about doing something like MIT's
opencourseware initiative. -Kyle H On 2/11/07, David Urquhart <[hidden email]> wrote: > > >I'm pretty sure Ralph teaches in Squeak, not Visual Works. The videos are copyrighted by the university so ralph cannot give
them for free. Now he was teaching in VW and switched to Squeak recently Stef On 9 févr. 07, at 23:25, Michael Davies wrote: > I've just found a link to a set of videos and lecture notes from Ralph > Johnson's lectures on Smalltalk (based on VisualWorks I believe): > http://st-www.cs.uiuc.edu/users/johnson/cs497/notes98/online- > course.html > The lecture notes are accessible, but the video links seem to be dead. > Does anyone know if they are still accessible anywhere? > _______________________________________________ > Beginners mailing list > [hidden email] > http://lists.squeakfoundation.org/mailman/listinfo/beginners > _______________________________________________ Beginners mailing list [hidden email] http://lists.squeakfoundation.org/mailman/listinfo/beginners |

Thanks for the tip, Martial; they're safely backed-up now. Is it possible to have such valuable materails availabel to all students? Just like the MIT open courseware.
I found there are a lot of videos, slides, and online books in that projects. -- Liu.
