It's not supported for quite some time https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Git
Thus has a few security holes that won't be patched https://www.cvedetails.com/vulnerability-list/vendor_id-4008/GIT.html
And lack plenty of interesting new features https://github.com/git/git/tree/v2.17.0/Documentation/RelNotes (gasp, I wished a more user friendly GUI!)

Thanks for this tedious addition Eliot. In Pharo's Discord channels several times I've seen this block newcomers building the VM. And I seem to repetitively crash into this even though I "should know" to run checkSCCSversion. A reminder will definitely help.
