I don't know about the context linux, but I'm imagining an analogy on mac's
version.

I'm betting that means version is 1.0_beta and a subversion trunk ("line")
is stuff that
comes down to you when you press an update button.

You'd lose that bet. The VM is a different beast, there's no simple  
update button for it.
