Hi folks,
Since this was buried at the end of a 20 message thread, I just wanted to confirm and bring Fabio's link to the surface where everyone can actually see it. This 201807260206 is the final release canddiate I should be testing with, yes? ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Fabio Niephaus <[hidden email]> Date: Fri, Jul 27, 2018 at 4:39 AM Subject: Re: [squeak-dev] [Vm-dev] [Test][Squeak5.2a][Metacello] Installation causes VM crash To: The general-purpose Squeak developers list <[hidden email]> Cc: Squeak Virtual Machine Development Discussion <[hidden email]> Ok, all new bundles now come with new VMs (201807260206) which include Eliot's fix: http://files.squeak.org/5.2alpha/Squeak5.2alpha-18155-64bit/ http://files.squeak.org/5.2alpha/Squeak5.2alpha-18155-32bit/ Best, Fabio On Thu, Jul 26, 2018 at 3:26 PM H. That's meaningless. We've had a new "latest" every day for the last
several years with the bug(s) that were just recently fixed. It takes effort for people to update their VM and test it. No one can do that every single day. It's a given that any candidate is not "necessarily" the final, if a major bug is found, that's why it's called a "candidate"... I was just looking for some guidance from the VM developers in order to try to support the release... If this is for sure not going to be the final, then I won't bother to upgrade all my VM's and test all my apps. Thanks. Hi Chris,

We've had a new "latest" every day for the last While I can't say that it will be the final I think the chances are very good. I wouldn't have suggested changing to this VM had it not been that the bug I uncovered, which has a low probability of biting, is a serious one, with the potential for computing incorrect results, hard crashes that are very difficult to diagnose from the crash log, etc. So could I ask, given that I have no desire to propose another version as the release candidate that you do update and test? We do have to test eventually and the one we have now is our best bet.
