Gentlefolks,
I just returned from www.stellarium.org, they (like many other free open source projects) have a "support this project" button for people who want to donate money to the project. I'd like to suggest that the various Squeak projects have their own "support this project" button. This perhaps makes it easier for interested parties to donate some money. Many people (like me) don't want to buy a piece of supermarket, but rather just some groceries for their mouse :) Donations to projects can be used for (for example) representing projects at events, buying hardware for the developers, printing CDs or documentation, and other related marketing activities which require money in support of visibility. And of course regular transfers can be made from a project's funds in support of the more general activities (community server, etc). What do you think? /Klaus |
Hi Klaus!,
I found it interesting. In practice each project should manage it's own donation system? That is the best/feasible way? Uniformization of that is desirable? cheers, Sebastian Sastre > -----Mensaje original----- > De: [hidden email] > [mailto:[hidden email]] En > nombre de Klaus D. Obviously this is not obvious enough. Maybe it's time for banner or column ads (for internal purposes only) on Squeak.org? Ken On Wed, 2007-07-04 at 13:15 +0200, Klaus D. Maybe we need to add 'Support Squeak' to the 'Take part in the innovation' section on the front page? tim -- tim Rowledge; [hidden email]; http://www.rowledge.org/tim Strange OpCodes: FD: Failsafe Disarmed |

Hi Sebastian,

Only more choice and more reasons for the donor to say, yes I'll do it. /Klaus > That is the best/feasible way? I even posted here, recently, that I used it. And I want to support those projects which are of interest for me, not just all. > Maybe it's time for banner or > column ads (for internal purposes only) on Squeak.org? One button per project, that was what I suggested. So people can have more reasons to effectively donate. /Klaus > Ken > > On Wed, 2007-07-04 at 13:15 +0200, Klaus D. What about one button per project but all money goes to one place? Makes sense for many small projects IMHO, since most will benefit more from the symbolic value of the donation and from a wealthier foundation/community than from the direct money. -- Damien Pollet type less, do more [ | ] http://typo.cdlm.fasmz.org |

Yeah, that'll do it as well (in principle). I think that's what Ken suggested, having more buttons on obvious places of squeak.org's web pages. > Makes sense for many small projects IMHO, since most will benefit more > from the symbolic value of the donation and from a wealthier > foundation/community than from the direct money. Many and small, that's Smalltalk-ish :) /Klaus > |

That sounds good to me, except that I do not think that SF or the maintainers of squeak.org should be responsible for setting it up. Let's simply leave each project to set up whatever donation infrastructure it likes. Lex |
