Dear Squeakers,
welcome to the The Weekly Squeak Summary, an irregular traffic-dependent report on what's going on in the world of Squeak based on the Weekly Squeak blog. Highlights of the past weeks: Squeak's documentation base has seen two significant improvements. There now is a detailed tutorial [1] focused on the development of a little game. The tutorial covers many aspects from Squeak installation over unit testing to version management with Monticello. The second important improvement is the book "Squeak by Example" [15] that covers the entire Squeak system. The book is available for free as a PDF download, but can also be purchased in print for very little money. Who says Squeak isn't usable in production? Qwaq and Intel are collaborating [18]! The OLPC initiative's XO laptops are going into production [4], and there finally was some credible and balanced coverage of the project in German television [9]. More smashing news is upcoming but not yet ready for being posted in the Weekly Squeak Summary... ;-) The past weeks' news items: [1] A Squeak 3.9 development tutorial http://news.squeak.org/2007/07/15/a-squeak-39-development-tutorial/ [2] New Seaside website http://news.squeak.org/2007/07/15/new-seaside-website/ [3] More eye-candy coming soon to your Squeak desktop http://news.squeak.org/2007/07/15/more-eye-candy-coming-soon-to-your-squeak-desktop/ [4] OLPC - The $100 Laptop - Goes into Production http://news.squeak.org/2007/07/23/olpc-the-100-laptop-goes-into-production/ [5] Dynamic Language Symposium http://news.squeak.org/2007/08/07/dynamic-language-symposium/ [6] Yabba Dabble Do! http://news.squeak.org/2007/08/08/yabba-dabble-do/ [7] Coder clears head… has fun… http://news.squeak.org/2007/08/09/coder-clears-head-has-fun/ [8] Thinking Objects http://news.squeak.org/2007/08/12/thinking-objects/ [9] OLPC on TV http://news.squeak.org/2007/08/20/olpc-on-tv/ [10] New Squeak UI Enhancements Released http://news.squeak.org/2007/08/30/new-squeak-ui-enhancements-released/ [11] Coming Soon - Open Source Squeak Book! http://news.squeak.org/2007/09/03/coming-soon-open-source-squeak-book/ [12] New Squeak UI Enhancements Released http://news.squeak.org/2007/08/30/new-squeak-ui-enhancements-released/ [13] To Pipe Or Not To Pipe http://news.squeak.org/2007/09/05/to-pipe-or-not-to-pipe/ [14] Squeak at ESUG http://news.squeak.org/2007/09/12/squeak-at-esug/ [15] Squeak By Example now published! http://news.squeak.org/2007/09/14/squeak-by-example-now-published/ [16] New Seaside Paper http://news.squeak.org/2007/09/18/249/ [17] Squeak running on FIC Neo1973 Open Source Phone http://news.squeak.org/2007/09/20/squeak-running-on-fic-neo1973-open-source-phone/ [18] Qwaq, Intel Collaborate on Enhanced Virtual Workspace Product http://news.squeak.org/2007/09/21/qwaq-intel-collaborate-on-enhanced-virtual-workspace-product/ You can find this and much more on The Weekly Squeak blog, the newsblog dedicated to the world of Squeak:http://news.squeak.org/ Subscribe to the Weekly Squeak RSS feed: http://news.squeak.org/feed/ Happy squeaking, Michael _______________________________________________ Beginners mailing list [hidden email] http://lists.squeakfoundation.org/mailman/listinfo/beginners |
