I'm pretty sure that was before Acorn, and at one time it had the fastest display update and lowest latency audio of them all. This is of more than just historical interest, because ports to various runtime platforms (including Android, SqueakNOS, JavaScript runtimes, and others) are important for maintaining Squeak and the VM as a portable system.
