caps lock introduces funny menu behaviour

keith1y
Is this a known problem?

When caps lock is on, all pop up menus refuse to accept selections. When
I click on "No" a second green "Red on Green "No" appears next to the
first, and neither accept the click, leaving me stuck.

I am running 3.8-6665 and vm

It sounds as if something somewhere thinks you're holding "shift",
since that's what I have to do to replicate this behavior. Good luck
in tracking it down!

Ah, right I think the "caps-lock" = "holding down shift" behaviour is a
known bug in the unix vm - it is on Mantis. But I do wonder what is this
behaviour for?

thanks for the prompt reply

Keith,

This sounds like a problem I reported about 2 years ago:

http://bugs.impara.de/view.php?id=565

It is now closed, I believe at the time of closing I tried and it seemed the
problem has gone away with the 3.9 VM:

======================
VM Version:
mzimmermann@home-server:~/dev/smalltalk/squeak/3.9/MathMorphs> squeak -version
3.9-7 #5 Mon Apr 24 20:07:28 PDT 2006 gcc 3.3.5
Squeak3.9alpha of 4 July 2005 [latest update: #7021]
Linux vps.piumarta.com 2.4.20-021stab028.18.777-enterprise #1 SMP Wed Sep 14

I just came after >3 weeks and have little time, but I plan to double-check as
it seems you have the same problem.

Keith,

I just verified - you are right, this is still hapenning as reported in

http://bugs.impara.de/view.php?id=565

Basically, the problem is that Caps-Lock is modifying mouse events, while it
should only modify key-pressed for key=A-Z. It seems minor but quite
confusion when user hit it first time, I did not know what is hapenning, and
I think I reinstalled fresh image and the VM before I found CapsLock on :(

(I have to clarify my above original report was not quite clear and correct,
the problem is currently only with Caps-Lock modifying mouse events.)

In the above bug, there is a link to a fix Ned Konz provided in Novemer 1994.
I am not sure if it was ever applied.

Please let me know if you'd like to report it, or I can do that. I do not have
priviledges to re-open the bug, we can creat a new one.

Happens on Linux and (I understand) Mas VM, Windows is OK
