Hi,
please note that the download location for the squeak-dev images (all flavours) has changed to: https://gforge.inria.fr/frs/?group_id=1299 Thank you -- Damien Cassou Peter von der Ahé: «I'm beginning to see why Gilad wished us good luck». (http://blogs.sun.com/ahe/entry/override_snafu) |
Hi Damien,
Damien Cassou wrote: > please note that the download location for the squeak-dev images (all > flavours) has changed to: > > https://gforge.inria.fr/frs/?group_id=1299 I must say that I'm not quite happy with a new location. Old one was very simple and obvious while on the new one it is quite hard to find anything. There is just too much packages for many projects on the page. Can you at least put squeak-dev and squeak-web on the separate page? I think it would be pity if your excellent work would be less popular because of harder accessibility. Easy access to your distributions is really important That's in my opinion but I'm sure others would agree too. Some weeks ago, I informed the squeak mailing-list about a new faster download location with a counter for each file. It was http://gforge.inria.fr/frs/?group_id=1211. This address did not replace the other ones (http://squeak.ofset.org/squeak-dev/ and ftp://ftp.ofset.org/squeak/squeak-dev). I opened this thead to inform the list that the new location was not available anymore and was replaced by http://gforge.inria.fr/frs/?group_id=1211. The other locations are still valid. The list of download urls are always available at http://damien.cassou.free.fr/. Is that ok? -- Damien Cassou Peter von der Ahé: «I'm beginning to see why Gilad wished us good luck». Damien,
maybe the evil iframe could do the job here (to integrate the gforge page in your free address)... so that you have the counter used each time... my 2 cents... Cédrick |

I do not understand your solution. The main problem, IIUC, is the GForge page which contains way too much things. I would like to have a page which contains only squeak-dev versions. Do you propose a solution for that? Thank you -- Damien Cassou Peter von der Ahé: «I'm beginning to see why Gilad wished us good luck». (http://blogs.sun.com/ahe/entry/override_snafu) |

Ok, because old location is just as nicely simple as possible, you have only the latest image to download, no need to search around and think about which one is right one. But if you like to have other versions, go ahead and open old folder. From usability standpoint (and therefore success of your work) old location is better, IMHO. What I could do is replace the old location directory by a webpage. This webpage would contain links which point to the newest files on the new location. What about this? -- Damien Cassou Peter von der Ahé: «I'm beginning to see why Gilad wished us good luck». (http://blogs.sun.com/ahe/entry/override_snafu) |

yep seems nice to me (I imagine the counter will work if only the link on your page). You will have an extra work to update the links as it seems to me they change... http://gforge.inria.fr/frs/download.php/4611/sq3.9.1-7075web08.05.2.zip BTW http://gforge.inria.fr/frs/download.php/4611/ opens the same file...
