[squeak-dev] [ANN] SqueakLightII.7188 is ready

Edgar J. De Cleene
I proud announce the alpha version is ready at
http://ftp.squeak.org/various_images/SqueakLight/SqueakLightII.7188.zip

This comes with a Welcome and Extra Bonus windows and could load some useful
stuff.

Off course also fun stuff !

This image could be easily updated from previous.
As still evaluating which Monticello version should be in, in this saved
image I stick to old trusted Ralph version of 3.10.
No 7182Monticello-edc.3.sqz into, but any could go to files and load for
have Monticello 1.6 beta of Matthew.

>From the image you could read any news I put in the swiki
http://wiki.squeak.org/squeak/6056

Remember, run but is alpha.

And soon I back to #IRC to do Spanish hour and try to awake all.
Probability grows roughly circaa 13.00 GMT :=)

I Googled for SqueakLight but could get much information about it. So What is SqueakLight? How does it compare to the regular Squeak? What are its goals?

Thanks,
Aik-Siong Koh

SqueakLight history could be found here http://wiki.squeak.org/squeak/3935
and if you read Spanish a more informal history here
http://wiki.gnulinex.org/squeakros/7
This was a hand made , a first step to me learn the complex of shrink and
have a working system.
This image is 3.7 based, and could be used to load any 3.7 and much of 3.8,
3.9 and 3.10.
The smaller version is 394 of less 4 mb .
I not work on it any more.

SqueakLightII is Unofficial 3.11, you could find the info here
http://wiki.squeak.org/squeak/6056

So is 3.10 , more modular and of 2/3 of size.

Could be used like regular Squeak and I continue the polishing with all
help.

At the moment use the same http://ftp.squeak.org/3.9/SqueakV39.sources.gz
sources of 3.9 final and 3.10, but this could change to have a "Class
repository" similar I got from 3.8 in 2005

ftp://squeakros.atspace.com/squeakros.atspace.com/CompressedClasses/

password is squeak

IMHO is a necessary small step to image being more and more modular, keeping
as much backward compatibility as possible.

The fact is the image could load almost the same 3.10 load and also some
projects originated in older Squeaks.

I'm trying to make a project doc .image based on SqueakLightII.7188, for
people exchanging .pr files; two things:

- copying (alt-c) a blue (linked) text which I selected in your workspace,
creates DNU :( see log below.

- have advice for me loading Connectors into SqueakLightII.7188, thank you
in advance !

/Klaus
