[squeak-dev] Any plans to update the supported backend of SqueakDBX?

Simon Kirk-4
Hi all.

I'm not sure who to contact about this, but I thought a general list
email would be OK.

I noticed that there's a new OpenDBX version (1.4.0) released as of
last Tuedsay. Interestingly, this one supports an ODBC backend, which
would of course make a SqueakDBX that supports this version
particularly attractive.

Is there work afoot to update SqueakDBX's supported OpenDBX version?

Cheers,
Simon

First of all, thanks for asking. Yes, this is the right place to ask I think.

OpenDBX supports ODBC in previous versions also. The thing is that now, this backend, was tested with more RDBMS. Actually, SqueakDBX is already supporting ODBC backend.
We have testing ODBC with SQL Server and PostgreSQL. OpenDBX with ODBC was tested with more backends that those.
You can see openDBX changelog here: http://linuxnetworks.de/opendbx/download/ChangeLog

We will then update this link: http://wiki.squeak.org/squeak/6108

Yes. Actually, we were waiting (we did SwaLint and code critics review) this openDBX version to release our first stable version. During this week, I will compile all supported backends with this new version and see if all is working ok. If so, the we will do our first stable release.

Cheers,
Simon
