[Bug] [Fix]  Wish to have more fun looking at animated gifs from the web?

I have found a serious problem that was munging certain animations.
The report and a preliminary patch are at the mantis report:

The bug goes back to the early days.
It shows up mostly with animate gifs.
That is probaly why it wasn't noticed.
