Hi,

some more, from a Dual Xeon (2x3GHz) running Linux 2.4.23, 2 GB RAM:

Squeak 3.8a-1: 216,398,985 bytecodes/sec, 9,303,240 sends/sec
Java 1.4.2_05: 11,851,851 bytecodes/sec, 678,849 sends/sec
Java 1.5.0-b64: 12,393,493 bytecodes/sec, 755,662 sends/sec

Overhead (Squeak over Java 1.5): 17.5 (bytecodes/sec), 12.3 (sends/sec)

Best,

Michael

Zulq Alam
Using the "server" VM (java -server) yields considerable improvement.

"server" VM (1.5.0_06-b05)
20,901,371 bytecodes/sec
1,612,479 sends/sec

Default "client" VM (1.5.0_06-b05)
12,661,160 bytecodes/sec
700,106 sends/sec

Squeak 3.8 (665)
123,671,497 bytecodes/sec
5,845,070 sends/sec

Taken on a P4 Dual Core at 2.8Ghz running XP SP2 in 1GB or RAM.
