Re: Contributors page (was little pictures of you)

Adrian Lienhard
In reply to this post by Stéphane Ducasse
OK, that's a good argument. So, I'd like to come to a conclusion:

- Photos with short summary as prototyped by Laurent
- On the main website under "Community" (rather than "About"), listed alphabetically by first name
- People are invited to get an entry if they have contributed or if they are in another way involved in the community (e.g., by being an active user)

OK?

Adrian, I did not find how to move the page from About to Community.

Re: Usable Pharo/Squeak packages

In reply to this post by Guillermo Polito
I've just improved it a little more :).

http://book.pharo-project.org/book/table-of-contents/PharoTools/?_s=OlHcsQPqbr65aXud&_k=Wrw5oK5_P7Q17GDv

It's not such a great thing yet.  It needs a lot of work like:

- review the classification I made :P.
- remove from the list the items we don't like, don't care or don't want in pharo.
- adding more packages. I would like to improve the communications tools list with soap ones if any, the XMLRPC gsoc project, and inter image communication tools... I believe it's important to introduce pharo in commercial projects.
- adding better explanations of each tool?
- specifying the status of each tool.  Is it stable on pharo 1.0? and in 1.1? Which is the metacello config for 1.0 and 1.1?
- adding more configurationOf I didn't found to the book
- creating more configurationOf for packages that lack of them.
- review what I did
- review what I did
- review what I did
- review what I did

Good night! hehe

Yes! But if you feel bad about it, maybe you can contribute more in the future to make up for it ;-)

e.g. looking at the bug tracker once in a while... just 380 open entries. Especially the trivialities
are not much work but quite relaxing to work on. And it's amazing how different a system looks
after just fixing 1000 trivial "unimportant" small things.

I never focused on wiping/inspecting bug entries.
I am usually find myself scratching own itches in a corner. And bug
discovery and fixing is side product of my activity :)

Yes, definitely. I can say, in my own experience, that trying to fix
bugs help me learn a lot of things
about the environment itself (Are things that if I'm not looking at
for fix bugs surelly will not look).

Obviously, I'm not talking about igor and other people with a lot more
knowledgment than me, only
commenting my own experience. And by other hand, if I use Pharo, I
feel the need of help on the
development, it's the open source spirit.

About the pics page, I think that is very important to expose our
names to possible companies
requiring work, very important to freelancers as me.

Just my opinion.

Germán.

This is cool I learned a lot doing that since squeak 3.3. or 3.2
(In fact I started to talk about marcus about jazz when we were both harvesters
and never meet.)

Thanks.
I think that taking care of a stuff that can help you for your projects is important in general.
For example people can ask themselves: why stef is spending so much time on ESUG (because this is a lot of time
and energy), well simple, when I discovered Smalltalk I went to the conf and it was dying (both the language
and the conference) so I thought either I complain: "oh my language is dying sniff sniff", "when I was young there
were a cool conference". Or I do something to try to make the future better.
Simple is n't it? Something you do not know if it will work but trying is the only chance we got.

This is an important one :)
Pharo is our software not mine.

Yes, it is.
There is a little people who put as much energy into it (smalltalk in
general) as you do,
totally freely, without any business agenda.
I can only applaud your efforts and wish you success.
And, please continue :)
